A fortress on the edge of fire and ice, built cube by cube. Each 2 cm cube carries a printed texture (grey stone walls, a swirling purple portal, blue-flame cubes, pale blue ice, red-hot lava, ore-studded rock and a little plank house) and snaps to the next one on any of its six faces, so the walls stay standing while little hands keep adding to them.
Does your child love quests, knights and secret portals? This set is a whole adventure. First they build the portal and the fortress walls around it, lay ice steps on one side and a lava flow on the other, then add the plank house and its tree. A knight two cubes tall stands guard against a mysterious tall shadow figure, while a pig, a ghost and a cheeky yellow cube look on. Then they take it apart and invent the rest: a dungeon, a drawbridge, a second portal.
Reproducing the fortress from the picture is a real planning exercise: count the cubes, find the right texture, work out which row goes first. Your child practices spatial reasoning and sequencing without noticing, because the goal is simply to get the portal standing inside its walls.
The magnets make the process forgiving. Cubes that line up click together, a cube placed the wrong way is turned around in a second, and nothing collapses when a wall is rebuilt. That self-correcting play is exactly what Montessori toys are about: the child works independently, checks their own result and tries again.

Set the pieces out on a low shelf or table so your child can reach them freely. Show the movement once, slowly, then step back and let them try. Adult supervision is recommended. Wipe clean with a damp cloth — no dishwasher, no soaking.

Building the fortress from the picture asks your child to plan, count and sequence: which wall goes first, how the portal frame closes at the top, where the ice steps and the lava flow meet. Each session strengthens their ability to picture a 3D shape and carry out a multi-step project on their own.
Once the fortress stands, the characters take over. The knight guards the portal, the shadow figure creeps along the lava, the ghost hides inside the swirl: pretend play grows out of the build, and the fortress becomes the setting for a new quest every day.
